Declan Rice revealed that today’s training session would be a ‘second recovery session’ as his matches against Iran, USA and Wales have been ‘tough on the legs’.

“I know if we had finished second, we would have been playing on Saturday, so getting that extra day is great and we’ll look to maximize that.”

England arrived at training without Ben White, who flew home from England’s World Cup campaign on a personal matter.

The FA confirmed on Wednesday night that the defender, who did not play for Southgate’s team while in Qatar, had left the team’s training ground at Al Wakrah.

The players were seen joking and laughing with the coach before hitting the road.

Southgate was all smiles despite the selection headache he will face heading into the round of 16.

The statement, which was posted on his official website, said Ben White would be unlikely to return to Qatar.

“Ben White left England’s training base at Al Wakrah and returned home for personal reasons,” the statement read.

The Arsenal defender is not expected to return to the team for the remainder of the tournament. We ask that player privacy be respected at this time.”

The rest of Southgate’s England squad attended the team’s training session on Thursday. The Three Lions seemed to be in good spirits following their win over Wales.

They were seen laughing and joking with their manager before taking part in a series of running drills to warm up before their training session.

Harry Kane brushed off any injury concerns and ran free with his teammates before taking part in a series of drills.

Raheem Sterling looked strong as he moved in and out of the cones, while Jude Bellingham looked light as he competed with various footwork drills.
