Retired star Rafael van der Vaart claimed Man United’s Antony “hasn’t proven anything” at the club and urged the winger to be more “like Marcus Rashford”.
The Brazil international secured an £85.5m transfer to Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer and met former boss Erik ten Hag, who had just joined United.
However, things have not gone entirely well for the 22-year-old and he is now being encouraged to be ‘humble’ on the pitch, in a bid to find his best form.
Manchester United winger Antony has come under fire for his recent performances.

Retired star Rafael van der Vaart criticized the striker, saying he “hasn’t done much”
The former Spurs midfielder told Ziggo Sports (via the Manchester evening news): ‘Do you know what happens with Antony? Of course he is a great talent and a great player, but he shouldn’t believe in himself too much. He’s just a good player, he hasn’t shown anything yet.
“He’s played some good Champions League games, he’s come in reasonably well for the Brazil team a couple of times, he’s made a great move and he hasn’t done much at Manchester United yet.” He must not think: “I have achieved it and I am going to show it to the whole world by doing crazy things.”
‘No, he has to decide the games, like Marcus Rashford is doing now. So you can do something crazy for once. But he has to be very humble, try hard and shoot or pass those balls.”

Antony has scored just three league goals since signing for £85.5m in the summer
Expectations were high for the winger upon his arrival from Ajax, but he has not lived up to it after scoring just three league goals this season.
Meanwhile, his teammate Rashford is in the best form of his life and has helped inspire Man United’s excellent domestic form with nine goals in his last 10 games.
Things went from bad to worse for Antony after he was mercilessly mocked by supporters on social media after his skill try went awry against Reading.

Van der Vaart insisted that the Brazilian should be inspired by Marcus Rashford
The Brazilian faced Chelsea loan Baba Rahman on the right wing as he searched for a way into the box.
After a few feints, he tried to rush past the defender but lost his balance, allowing Rahman to remove the danger.
It is not the first time that Antonio has been mocked for a failed skill. He came under fire last year after displaying his trademark turn while on acres of space in a Europa League tie against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Antony was twice mocked by fans on social media after failing to perform a skill.
